Hackpack News Yes it's 2012
Posted by zewtastic on Monday, January 02, 2012 (18:48:53) (50 reads)

The latest word is no changes to Hackpack for the coming 2012 season.

No new format, no teams, nothing different from what you experienced in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, etc.

First day of Hackpack 2012 will be Monday April 9, and through September 3.

Off for the holiday weekends of May 28 and July 2.

Tom will be sending out emails with update as the season start gets closer.

New Hardware is Live
I have moved Hackpack.com completely over to the server that Signature technology Group graciously donated for our use. It all seems to be working well. If you find any issues(as there are always issues) please email me at john.rappold at gmail.com.

Hackpack.com Changes?
I had started work on a new, updated version of hackpack.com, as this site is ancient in technology years. I am hopeful to get a new site built, but time is a precious commodity that always seems to be less plentiful as the years pass.

For those interested you can see whats in the works at test.hackpack.com. It is built on a wordpress platform (as I hate to recreate with wheel), and will incorporate a lot of ajax and js code.

Hackpack News Server Update!
Posted by zewtastic on Saturday, July 23, 2011 (23:52:32) (716 reads)

As some of you know the server hardware we are using for Hackpack has been failing lately, meaning crashing regularly. It is an old PoS box I built years ago, and is basically beyond fixing.

So Tom put out the plea for some generous provider to help us out with something newer and more reliable that we can transition Hackpack.com over to, to provide greater speed and reliability going forward.

Amazingly we had a response from one of our long-time friend of Hackpack, and they provided us with awesome second hand servers.

The change-over though will probably take a week or two as moving database and web applications built on a MS platform(built 8+years ago) over to a newer hardened appliance running a current Linux distro is not cut-and-paste.

Not to mention trying to make sure the new box has all the critical data duplicated to a cloud storage location just in case of local failure.
